š OpenSD 2026 -- Winter School at COPPE/UFRJ
[šŗšø] This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming more than 50 participants to the Alberto Coimbra Institute for Graduate Studies and Research in Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (COPPE/UFRJ) for the first OpenSD Winter School (Open Source Scientific Computing in Structural Dynamics) held in Latin America.
OpenSD is an event dedicated to the development and use of open-source software in structural dynamics. The initiative aims to foster an open-source culture across academia and industry, bringing these two communities close together while showcasing the latest developments in open-source software for the field.
It was two days of great learning, knowledge exchange, and discussions about the future of open scientific computing in structural dynamics. The first day focused on an introduction to the Python programming language and its main scientific libraries. On the second day, we had presentations on several open-source packages for structural dynamics and related fields:
- ROSS: Rotordynamics Open-Source Software
- OpenPulse: Open-Source Software for Pulsation Analysis of Pipeline Systems
- VIBRA: Vibroacustic Analysis using the Finite Element Method
- PyMLDA: Open-Source Software for Structural Integrity
- STONEHENGE: An ensemble of Matlab and C++ codes for nonlinear dynamic analysis of vibration energy harvesting systems
- mSINDy: Modular Sparse Identification of Nonlinear Dynamics
We would like to thank everyone who participated and contributed to making this first edition such a special one.
Hereās to the nest editions!
As
